Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s On Tour Exhibition by Matt Irwin

April 28th 2015

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s On Tour Exhibition by Matt Irwin is now in its final days at the Sofitel Melbourne.

The exhibition is a specially curated collection of behind-the-scenes photographs captured by Matt whilst accompanying the MSO as the official documentarian (film and photography) on their European Tour in August 2014.  Led by Chief Conductor, Sir Andrew Davis, performances were held in England, Scotland, Holland, Germany and Denmark, including an exclusive opportunity for Matt to photograph Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

On Tour was celebrated with a cocktail party earlier this month at the Sofitel Melbourne, with over one hundred attendees.

Reflecting on the experience, Matt says, “Being in close company to such vivid layered expression is electric, humbling, deeply moving. To travel in these moments with these exquisite artists, humbled by their sublime seemingly effortless magic, yet also having the fortune to know their everyday, is a gift”.

“As a photographic artist engaged to show and connect with the human scale of the Orchestra, I could not have been fulfilled more completely by this journey. As an artist, I felt completely surrounded by kindred spirit. It was rare and blessed. Knowing this, being part of this, living in this, filled each day with immense personal and professional joy”.

The On Tour exhibition is on now until Thursday 30 April, with artworks available for purchase. Proceeds go towards further touring.
